Bandung, Indonesia – Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia, Retno Marsudi, conveyed the achievements of various concrete actions that Indonesia has taken in facing the challenges of climate change in the 2024 Annual Press Statement of the Minister for Foreign Affairs (PPTM) (8/1). Foreign Minister Retno also said that Indonesia has shown commitment and led by example in various multilateral forums to tackle climate change.

“Of course, we cannot do all of this alone, we must encourage collective responsibility to ensure that every country also implements its commitment to fight climate change,” Retno continued in her speech at the 2024 PPTM held at the Asian-African Conference (KAA) Museum, Bandung.

In this case, Indonesia is committed to reducing deforestation and forest fires, rehabilitating mangrove forests and degraded land, as well as targeting net zero emission by 2060.

Indonesia’s concrete steps are also shown by becoming a co-initiator of the Asia Zero Emission Community or AZEC with Japan. AZEC is a regional cooperation platform for achieving net zero emission. In addition, Retno said that Indonesia also has credible innovative financing, such as the Energy Transition Mechanism and the Just Energy Transition Partnership (JETP) which were launched on the sidelines of the G20 Summit in Bali.

Nevertheless, Retno stated that efforts to fight climate change require commitment and cooperation from every country. For this reason, Indonesia continues to encourage every country to have a shared responsibility in dealing with climate change.
