The Indonesian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) took part in a mangrove planting session on Saturday held by various companies and organizations in Indramayu regency, West Java. The Take Environmental Regenerative Action (TERA) event was organized by PT Arunika Bumi Lestari (ABL), Earth Security, Carbon Ethics and Earth Pledge in Pabean Ilir village in Indramayu regency, West Java, in conjunction with Indonesia’s 79th Independence Day. There were 14 participants in the collaborative event themed “Planting 1 Million Mangrove Seedlings to Save the Earth”. The event also served as a prelude to the Indonesia Sustainability Forum (ISF), which is planned for later this year, Kadin Committee for Planning & Evaluation of Watershed, Protected Forest and Mangroves deputy head Chintya Dian Astuti said in a media statement on Saturday. “The ISF will be the largest sustainability conference in Indonesia, [and maybe] even in the world,” she said. “The event will field policymakers, experts and investors from all over the world to build partnerships in sustainability to accelerate the growth of the world’s green economy.”

Meanwhile, TERA is a multiparty platform and collaborative action to conserve and manage mangrove ecosystems in a sustainable way in Indonesia. Chintya said the mangrove-planting event was held because mangroves have potential as a nature-based mitigation action against climate change. She cited 2021 Environment and Forestry Ministry data, saying that Indonesia has the largest and most productive mangrove forests in the world, at around 3.36 million hectares or about 20 percent from the world’s mangrove forests.
